Autumn Meeting Start Sheet

The Isle of Wight Golf Union Autumn Shield is the last event of the season played at Newport Golf Club.

The winner of the scratch event was Darren Masterton 67 gross (Osborne),2nd Chris Hayward (Osborne) 68 gross and 3rd Tom McInnes (Ryde) 69 gross.

 

 Division one winner Tom McInnes Nett 63 (Ryde),2nd Nigel Claxton Nett 65 (Ryde) and 3rd Louis Payne (Newport).

 

Division 2 winner Bob Singh-Bansi Nett 63 (Westridge),2nd Darren Baxter Nett 68 (Ryde) and 3rd John Blow Nett 69 (Ryde).

 

Vets winner Nigel Claxton Nett 65 (Ryde),2nd Steve Tutt (Ryde) and 3rd Darren Baxter (Ryde).

The Isle of Wight Golf Union League table had several contenders for the title, and Tom McInnes of Ryde won; the Final League Table is attached.

Also up for contention were Island Games Ranking points; three players already qualified in one place to congratulate Conner Knight for achieving the fourth spot and for Natt Riddett's excellent performance in attaining the top spot in the ranking points.

 

The players to represent the Men's team in 2025 at the Island Games in Orkney are Nat Riddett (Shanklin), Chris Hayward (Osborne), George Foreman (Shanklin) and Connor Knight (Shanklin). I wish the Best of luck to our Manager, Darren Masterton and his team at the Island Games.

 

Thank you to Newport Golf Club for hosting the Autumn Meeting, especially Terry Philips for starting the event throughout the day, Pip for opening early, Steve Newman behind the bar, and Sarah for catering. Newport should be proud of having a great captain and phenomenal staff.

Terry Riddett Trophy played at Ryde Golf Club.

Congratulations to Conner Knights (Shanklin) for winning the scratch event with a Gross 69. Jason White (Freshwater) handicap competition with a nett  67 in Division One and Division Two winner Adie Adam (Ryde) Nett 65 and Winner of the Vets Harry Lythgoe (Ryde) nett 64.

Thank you to Tom McInnes and John Thorpe for their invaluable assistance in ensuring the competition ran smoothly. We also thank the staff at Ryde Golf Club for their exceptional hospitality. The immaculate condition of the course is a testament to your hard work and dedication. Thank you all!

Scratch Ranking table: The race to the Island games is up in the air, with Nat Riddett qualifying. Four players may be in contention for three places, with only one event left.

Handicap Ranking table with Paul Morton (Ryde), with a slight lead, with the possibility of over ten people winning the league.

Isle of Wight Golf Union 2024 Championships 

Summer Meeting winner Connor Knight 

At the Isle of Wight Golf Union event, Glyn Jones played today at Osborne Golf Club.

Congratulations to Chris Hayward (Osborne) for the Scratch event with a Gross 71 over Nat Riddett (Shanklin) and Danny Holmes (Freshwater) on countback.

The winner of the Division 1 Handicap was Tom McInnes 63 Nett (Ryde),2nd Neil Hallett 68 nett(Shanklin) and 3rd Matthew Leek 68 (Cowes)  Division 2 Ian Couse (Westridge) with a nett 63 ,(Westridge),2nd place Justin McDonald(Westridge) nett 64 and 3rd place Dan Thomas nett 69 (Westridge).

The Vets won by Neil Hallett (Shanklin) 68 nett, second Dan Thomas (Westridge) 69 nett and third Steve Rowley 69 Nett.

I want to thank Osborne Golf Club for its hospitality and for allowing the Isle of Wight Golf Union to host the Glyn Jones event. Special thanks and mention to Chris Tyson, Angus Robertson, and Chris Hayward for their help in making the event run smoothly.

Harry Gordon Trophy played on Sunday, 21st April 2024, at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club.

Congratulations to George Foreman for winning the Scratch and Vets (Over 55) competitions and Mitch Young for winning the Handicap event.

I would first like to thank Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club for hosting the event and welcoming the Isle of Wight Golf Union, especially the members. Thank you to George Foreman and Adie Adams for starting the competition and Nat Riddett for collecting the entry fees.

Next event Glyn Jones at Osborne Golf Club on Sunday 19th May 2024 entries are now open.

Congratulations to Dan Mew for winning the Isle of Wight Golf Union Championships 2023 Scratch and McMasters Trophy.

David Williams won the first IWGU Championships event on Friday, the Brabazon Trophy.

On Saturday, 36 Hole Scratch won by Dan Mew,

                       18 Hole, won by  David Williams

                        Vets (Over 55)    Clive Beard

On Sunday, in the Semi-final playoffs, Dan Mew beat Conor White on the 14th hole, and George Foreman beat Richie Harrison on the 18th.

Dan Mew beat George Foreman in the final 6 and 5.

The draw will be in handicap order to encourage different club members to play with the players of the same ability. 

You can enter for £5 per event Scratch, Handicap, Vets (over 55).

We also have Leagues for players to contend in Scratch (Island Games Qualifier), Handicap, Vets (Over 55) and Juniors.


The draw will be on Tuesday, 16th May 2023.
